The Olympics in headlines

Luckily most newspapers had already written closing ceremony commemorative editions before last night’s event had got going. So this morning’s positive front page headlines capped two weeks where the Olympics dominated the news agenda. Short of Syria’s continuing bloodshed and the murder of Tia Sharp, there was very little which made the front pages – as the word cloud of national newspaper front page lead stories from the past two weeks shows.

Unless you read the Express.

Just 40% of Express front page lead stories (i.e. the text story rather than solely image based stories) featured the Olympics. This is compared to 100% of Times and Telegraph front page leads.

Update 14.08.12: If you want to see the full list of headlines used to create these charts, it’s available on Issuu.
